A study conducted by ULU shows that London students are some of the most committed purchasers of fairtrade products in Britain.  Nearly three-quarters have bought a fairtrade product in the last month and over half within the last week.  More than four-fifths of London students have bought a fairtrade product at some point.

Over 300 people were questioned for the survey, which revealed that London students have a high level of understanding when it comes to fairtrade.  93% have heard of fairtrade and 69% feel that they understand what it is.  Two in five London students hope to buy even more fairtrade products as they continue to become more easily available.

ULU Vice-President Samuel Thomas said "These results have exposed student apathy as a myth.  London's students can be proud of their commitment to social justice."  He continued by announcing that "In response to students' wishes, ULU's shops are increasing their range of fairtrade products, which now include clothing made with fairtrade cotton."  Other fairtrade products on sale in ULU's shops include coffee, tea, fruit juice, chooclate and cereal bars.

Next week sees the fourth gathering of the ULU Trade Fair Forum, a resource for all students interested in fairtrade, global justice or the environment.  If you buy fairtrade but you're interested in campaigning as well, the Forum is a great place to start.  Click here for details!
