ULU is committed to its Environmental and Ethical Polices:

These Include: 

  • New partnership with LPM and Greenstar: ULU now has full recycling facilities across the building. From paper cups, plastic bottles and cardborad to batteries and mobile phones, there are recycling facilites at ULU for it.  

    • Greenstar ran a road show here at ULU to promote their "Reduce, Recycle and Re-use" mantra at ULU. They got many people to sign up and pledge their support to reducing their impact on the environment! See the pledge sheets HERE!

  • Sound Impact Awards: Run by the National Union of Students, this awards scheme is designed to help and encourage student unions to make substantial improvments in the environmental practice of their organisations.

  •  The Guardian's 10:10 Campaign: ULU has signed up to the Guardian 10:10 campaign. In doing so it has pledged to reduce its carbon emmissions by at least 10% during the year 2010.

  • Reducing Utility Consumption:
o    Through appropriate training of staff ULU constantly reduces utility consumption across the building.
o    We have installed Solar Film on the Gallery Bar roof, conference rooms and offices, which will reduce the use of air-conditioning units.
o    We have installed devises in all the buildings fridges and freezers. These will to reduce electricity consumption by up to 33%.
·         Regular Ethical and Environmental Audits conducted by the NUS services:
o    This includes building works, and guidelines for operations activities that may have a positive change on our environmental impact
·         Ethical Purchasing:
o    We continue to increase the supplies and products of Fairtrade goods across our retail departments.
o    Our conference and catering departments use  tea, coffee and hot chocolate.
·         Waste Management and Recycling:
o    ULU currently recycles all waste paper and cardboard and are looking into ways to improve recycling in the building with new green business partnerships.
·         ULU has committed members of staff who are dedicated to environmental issues:
o    Members of ULU staff are active members of the University of London’s Environmental Policy Work Group.
·         ULU encourages all permanent and student staff to take an active role in ethical and environmental issues.
