FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

THE SOCIETY

Q. Do I need to join the society to attend the class?
A. No, but membership is free once you have attended one class. We ask everyone who attends the class to join the society as it really helps us when dealing with the ULU administration. Joining is easy, all you need to do is download a membership form (
PDF or Word document), fill it out and hand it to one of the officers at the class. Please note though you do need a valid ULU card for 2009-2010!

LIFE DRAWING CLASSES

Q. How much is it to attend the life drawing class?

A. Just £5. This is very competitive compared to other classes in London and covers the cost of professional tuition and model hire.

Q. Do I have to be a highly trained artist to attend?

A. No, we welcome all abilities from beginner to advanced! If you have little experience drawing then talk to the tutor Simon before the class and he will help you getting started.

Q. What is the format of the class?

A. The class usually consists of a series of short (2-10 minute) and medium (15-45 min) poses and one long pose (90 min with a 15 min break) of the model’s choosing.

Q. What materials can I use?

A. You have quite a lot of freedom here – people who’ve come to our class in the past have used pencils, charcoal, watercolours, pens, chalks, crayons etc. Regrettably there isn’t really the space for easels so painting is not possible. This may change if we can get a larger room – join the society as this makes it easier for us to ask for larger rooms!

Q. I don’t know if I can make it every week, is that ok?

A. Yes. The class runs on a drop-in basis so you only need pay when you come to a class and there is no obligation to come every week.

ULU

Q. Where is ULU?

A. ULU is on Malet Street in London, a short walk from UCL, SOAS, London School of Pharmacy, LSE and Kings. Click here for a map and details of how to get to ULU by public transport.

Q. How do I get a ULU card?

A. Take a recent passport-sized photograph and your college identification to the reception on the ground floor of the ULU building. The will be able to issue you a card there and then for free.
